Well the scooters are gone.  On Saturday my brother came by to pick them up.  Currently they are at the SF Scooter Centre for some diagnostic/repair work.  After that is complete, it is time for them to be sold.  I guess this closes the scooter riding chapter of our lives, at least for now.  If I’m ever going to get back into riding, it will only be on a brand new scooter with real brakes.
